What is Hypnosis? Hypnosis is a state of both relaxation and focus that we experience naturally throughout the day. Hypnosis is a bridge between our subconscious and conscious minds that facilitates communication. Through hypnosis, “automatic” reactions of fear, anxiety, pain and addiction can be revealed and changed through communication with the subconscious. In our hypnosis sessions, we can identify the subconscious beliefs that lead to undesirable “automatic” reactions. When we understand the reason for the “automatic” reactions, we can find a better way for the body to respond. When the body finds a better way to respond to a given stressor, real lasting change has happened. Hypnosis is not magic - but it is a modality that can make change feel easy. All that is required is a desire for change, and the belief that it is possible. We are what we believe - together lets build beliefs that let you live the life you want.

What does hypnosis feel like? Driving a car is a common example of being “in hypnosis”. We are able to use the pedals, steer, watch for traffic, follow directions, have a conversation - all without actively thinking about what we are doing. We are “in hypnosis” when we are waking up and falling asleep each day. Hypnosis can feel alert, like driving, or deeply relaxed, like the moments around sleep. In our sessions, hypnosis will feel incredibly familiar. What may feel new is using hypnosis collaboratively and with intention. In our sessions, you will never feel out of your own control. Rather, our goal is to empower you to make the exact changes you want in your subconscious mind - and throughout your life.

Is this psychotherapy? I am not a licensed therapist, but, depending on your goals or needs, our work together may feel and look a lot like psychotherapy. I work as a hypnotist and coach because it better describes the kind of work we will do together. Different from long term talk therapy, our work will be goal oriented, addressing specific changes you want to make in your life. Our aim is to build the strongest version of you, exactly in the way you imagine. As your coach, I am here to push you and support you. As a hypnotist, we will enlist your subconscious to make the work of change easy. Depending on your goals in our work, it can sometimes be helpful to coordinate with your existing therapist, physician or psychiatrist to best achieve the change you want.

Why is Hypnosis so effective in creating change? Hypnosis is so effective because it utilizes the body’s common capacity to communicate with our subconscious minds. Rather than being something foreign, our bodies naturally employ hypnosis all by themselves when they are in a state of learning. Hypnosis is the reason we can perform complex tasks like driving, reading or walking without consciously thinking about what our bodies are doing. Our minds turn these complex actions into automatic hypnotic reactions. Working with a hypnosis practitioner allows the body to intentionally learn/unlearn/change in the way it understands best.
